NHS CHILDREN'S EYE EXAMINATIONS
In Scotland, children's eye examinations are funded by the NHS, making it easy to keep your child's vision and eye health under regular review.
Many children don't realise they have a vision problem, which is why routine eye examinations are so important. Our experienced team takes the time to assess your child's eyesight in a calm, welcoming environment, ensuring they feel comfortable throughout their visit.
Should we identify any concerns, we'll explain everything clearly and guide you through the next steps.
MYOPIA MANAGEMENT
If your child's short-sightedness (myopia) is progressing, early intervention can help slow its development.
At McGraths, we offer myopia management solutions, including Scotlens Ortho-K Night Lenses, which gently reshape the front of the eye while your child sleeps. During the day, they can enjoy clear vision without glasses or daytime contact lenses.
Myopia management may help reduce the rate at which short-sightedness progresses, supporting better long-term eye health.
We'll take the time to assess whether treatment is suitable and discuss the options available for your child.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Even if you’ve been to see us before or you’re looking to book your first eye examination, you may have some questions. Here are answers to a few commonly asked questions, but feel free to get in touch if you’d like to know more.
Eye tests are free to everyone in Scotland under the NHS
An OCT Scan is free of charge
We recommend an eye test every 2-3 years. Under 18’s, we recommend you get an eye test every 6-12 months.
You will sit in front of the scanner and rest your head on a support. The equipment will then scan your eye (without touching it) and will take no more than 20 seconds per eye.
You shouldn’t feel any pain throughout your eye examination or OCT scan.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. My wife had arrived in Edinburgh having forgotten her glasses.
The optician who assisted us could not have been any friendlier. She provided my wife with contact lenses and ensured that she was able to see.
